Northern Red Oak

The Northern Red Oak Tree, ‘Quercus borealis,’ has moderate water requirements and can tolerate salt and alkali soils. It is most known for its strength and brilliant red fall color. Its form is rounded and its ascending, typically massive branches commonly bend low to the ground. It will begin to bear its acorns in about ten to twelve years in a nursery setting. This is a very widely planted tree that grows best in well-draining soils. A Northern Read Oak is most commonly used as a specimen tree or for wildlife.
